Amel Tuka re-elected as President of the Athletes Commission
Lana Pudar elected as vice president, and Elvedin Muzaferija as secretary.
Today, the inaugural meeting of the Athletes’ Commission of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina took place, during which the best Bosnian-Herzegovinian athlete, Amel Tuka, was elected as the commission president for the 2024–2028 term. The vice president is Bosnian swimmer Lana Pudar, while the position of general secretary has been entrusted to skier Elvedina Muzaferija. Additionally, Mesud Pezer and Tanja Karišik were appointed as representatives of the Athletes’ Commission of the OK BiH in the General Assembly of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The commission members praised the work of the previous term (2020–2024), led by Amel Tuka, who organized the first Athletes’ Forum of the OK BiH in 2023, gathering top athletes from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Athletes’ Forum was the first event of its kind to bring together former, current, and future top athletes from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who utilized this opportunity for education, information exchange, and experience sharing, along with a variety of content presented by prominent sports workers in BiH, as well as representatives from the IOC. The Athletes’ Commission also participated in creating the conclusions of the "Round Table of the OK BiH," which relate to the systemic financing of elite sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They launched a video campaign by recording 12 video messages and participated in TV shows where they highlighted the issues of financing elite sports in BiH, directed to decision-makers and budget legislators at all levels of government in BiH.
Olympian Amel Tuka, a mechanical engineer fluent in Italian and English, is a silver and bronze medalist at the World Athletics Championships (Doha-2019 and Beijing-2015) and secured sixth place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. In 2015, Amel was the fastest man in the world at 800 meters, achieving the best time in this discipline.
The Athletes’ Commission of the OK BiH will work in the coming period on activities and plans to improve conditions for athletes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, ensuring that athletes’ voices are heard at all decision-making levels and that an environment is created in which athletes can develop and successfully represent Bosnia and Herzegovina on the international stage.
