XXXIII Olympic Games are officially open!

In a spectacular ceremony on 26 July 2024 in the French capital, the lighting of the Olympic flame officially opened the XXXIII Olympic Games “Paris 2024”.

For the first time in history, the ceremony took place outside the traditional stadium, on the famous Seine River, which flows through the heart of Paris. With more than 160 boats, delegations from over 200 countries created a fleet that was unforgettable for all spectators.

The ceremony was held under the slogan “Games wide open”, which aims to make the Olympic Games open to everyone, regardless of origin, gender or ability. The aim is to make the Games accessible and inclusive for athletes and spectators from all walks of life. The slogan symbolically reflects the spirit of the Olympic Games as a platform for global connectivity, innovation and inclusion.

In the part of the opening ceremony representing the world's delegations competing in the Olympic Games, the BH team of five athletes was led by flag bearers Larisa Cerić and Mesud Pezer.

The ceremony was opened by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

At this year's Games, the Olympic Oath was taken in accordance with gender equality, and the athletes and the world were addressed by the President of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee and the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dr. Thomas Bach.

The President of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, Tony Estanguet, welcomed France, after 100 years, "The Games are what has encouraged us to grow, thank you to all the employees, and to those who work in the shadows". Also, the President of the Paris OC thanked the 45,000 volunteers, who contributed to the magnificent Opening of the Games with their selfless work. "Even if the Games cannot solve all the problems, the Games are the ones that send a great message and remind us that anything is possible."

In welcoming the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach once again emphasized that today we are sending messages of solidarity and peace. Special thanks are extended to the thousands of volunteers, who are the best ambassadors of France and sport, as well as to the Paris 2024 Organising Committee. "The Olympic Games are a symbol of unity and solidarity between nations. These are the first Games with an equal number of male and female athletes. They are a unique opportunity to bring together different cultures and promote peace and mutual understanding in the spirit of the Olympic values ​​of excellence, friendship and respect," stressed Dr Bach.

The privilege of lighting the Olympic Flame went to athlete Marie Jose Perec and judoka Teddy Riner, who are known for their successful careers, perseverance, and contribution to sport, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and equality that the Olympic Games represent. The Olympic Flame was handed over to them by the oldest gold medallist, Charles Coste.

This ceremony marks the beginning of the sports competition that will last until August 11, during which more than 10,000 athletes from around the world will compete in 32 sports. The organizers announced strict security measures and ensuring impeccable organization so that everything went smoothly.
