EWoS Neum & Banja Luka

The two biggest water polo rivals in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Water Polo Club Banja Luka and the Croatian Water Polo Club Jadran Neum, under the auspices of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Water Polo Federation of BiH, organized today, within the framework of the open summer championship of BiH, a lot of excitement for the audience who not only enjoyed this match but also participated in the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the European Week of Sport and the #BeActive campaign. In the first match, in the U-17 category, the hosts from Neum triumphed, and the seniors also won, allowing HVK Jadran Neum to rightfully claim another trophy.

Between matches, a ceremonial event was held where attendees were presented with T-shirts and gifts featuring the motivating message #BeActive and the European Week of Sport in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as part of the "EU4Youth – European Week of Sport Beyond Borders in the Western Balkans" project, funded by the European Commission through the IPA program, implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports of Republika Srpska, coordinated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH.

"We played two matches in two age categories, and to my personal happiness, our club won both matches and thereby secured first place. This beautiful event was enhanced by the European Week of Sport and the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina with their presence and thoughtful gifts. This is great for the promotion of water polo," said Kristijan Njavro, coach of HVK Jadran Neum.

The Water Polo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina also supported the event.

"The specificity of Bosnia and Herzegovina is that our summer championship is held in the sea or on lakes. For the past ten years, we have been playing in Neum, and water polo is in a phase of expansion. I am confident that in the near future we will open new pools in cities across BiH and engage an increasing number of boys and girls in this sport," emphasized Professor Dr. Slobodan Grahovac, Vice President of the Water Polo Federation of BiH.

The European Week of Sport, launched by the European Commission in 2015, aims to combat physical inactivity and raise awareness of the importance of regular movement for the health of individuals and communities. Over the past decade, the #BeActive campaign has become a recognizable symbol of changing lifestyles and promoting sports values across Europe. In Bosnia and Herzegovina this year, the #BeActive campaign is traveling through nine cities, promoting different sports, with the central week being simultaneously celebrated in many European countries during the last week of September.
