Lana Pudar trains with top global swimming team
The Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted a press conference with our Olympian and top swimmer Lana Pudar.
Lana Pudar has been named the best female athlete of Bosnia and Herzegovina three years in a row, in the selection organized by the Olympic Committee of BiH. She participated in the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics.
She has won a total of 22 medals at major international competitions — 11 gold, six silver, and five bronze.
The best Bosnian swimmer will continue her swimming career and education at the University of Virginia. Todd DeSorbo, head coach of the swimming team at UVA and head coach of the U.S. women’s national team, will be responsible for her athletic development.
Along with Lana, the press conference was also attended by the President of the Olympic Committee of BiH, Prof. Dr. Izet Rađo, and Lana’s coach and manager, Prof. Dr. Damir Đedović.
In his speech, Rađo emphasized how Lana has shown what dedication, sacrifice, and love for her homeland mean, bringing immense joy and pride to Bosnia and Herzegovina through her results.
"But today, alongside pride, we feel bitterness. Lana Pudar, a champion who carried Bosnia and Herzegovina’s name worldwide, must continue her career outside her home country — in search of what she lacks here: a pool in her hometown of Mostar and a serious sports environment," said Rađo.
He concluded with a message that Bosnia and Herzegovina has talent, champions, and heart.
"What is still missing is a system that recognizes and develops the future through sport. It’s time sportspeople are no longer left to their own devices and sacrifices. It’s time for serious and sustainable sports development," Rađo added.
Damir Đedović, Lana’s coach and manager, pointed out that he had long discussions and negotiations with people at the University of Virginia.
"The main condition was that Lana receives equal treatment as the best American swimmers. Also, I needed access to her training process to participate in her further development and education because Lana will eventually return to BiH," said Đedović.
Our Olympian, Lana Pudar, expressed her happiness at being part of the best swimming team in the world.
"I will do my best to justify this opportunity and make the most of it," stated Pudar.
