Meet the Phryges | Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic mascots unveiled
Sweet ideals of freedom to start a sports revolution!
The mascots for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games were unveiled at a press conference in Paris on 14 November 2022. Small Phrygian caps are a powerful symbol of freedom, inclusiveness, and people's ability to support big and meaningful goals.
At the mascot unveiling ceremony in Saint-Denis, Paris 2024 Olympic President Tony Estanguet said: “We chose an ideal, not an animal. We chose the Phrygian cap because it is a very strong symbol for the French Republic. For the French, it is a very well-known object that is a symbol of freedom.
The Olympic and Paralympic mascots of Paris 2024 are two Phrygian caps decorated with French national colors. The two mascots have the gold Paris 2024 logo on their chests and are described as having "mischievous and expressive looks". The Paralympic mascot has a running blade, the first time a Games mascot has had a visible disability.
The fact that the mascot of the Paralympic Games has a visible disability also sends a strong message: promote inclusion.”
Julie Matikhine, brand director of the Paris 2024 Olympics, revealed that the most important attribute of the mascot was "meaning". Noting that the mascots of the previous Games were usually animals that were the symbol of the host country.
The two mascots share the motto "Alone we go faster, but together we go further"
The Olympic mascot is described as "a tactician with a calculated brain", while the Paralympic mascot is "spontaneous, full of energy and enthusiasm".
"They're sporty, they like parties... and they're so French"
