Anniversary of the founding of the Olympic Committee of B&H
On this day 34 years ago, June 4, 1992, the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina was founded. Mr. Stjepan Kljuić was elected the first president, and Ahmed Karabegović presided as chairman of the founding assembly. Personal and sports leaders such as Uglješa Uzelac and Izudin Filipović participated, along with representatives of 20 sports federations, sports workers, journalists and experts.
After our athletes’ first Olympic appearance in Barcelona 1992, the International Olympic Committee officially recognized the NOC of BiH on September 24, 1993, in Monaco. In 2002 the Committee was registered with the Ministry of Justice and thus became the country’s top sports body. The Committee’s emblem was designed by academic painter Mersad Berber.
As an IOC member, the Olympic Committee of BiH committed to uphold the Olympic Charter, the IOC Statutes, the IOC Code of Ethics, the World Anti-Doping Code, the Lausanne Joint Declaration, the Law on Associations and Foundations of BiH, and the Law on Sport of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The founding assembly brought together representatives of 20 sports federations (Olympic sports), prominent sports figures, sports journalists, sports doctors and physical education experts: Mehmed Sokolović, Petko Radović, Dezider Jurišić, Petko Radović, Vasilije Morović, Mirsad Fazlagić, Burazor Slavko, Ahmed Karabegović, Mersad Berber, Miroslav Šipek, Davorin Popović, Mirza Delibašić, Memnum Idžaković, Stevica Krsmanović, Branislav Crnogorac, Ale Hasanbegović, Zdenko Brož, Uglješa Uzelac, Čedo Gojković, Dragan Nožica, Mladjen Talić, Faruk Talić, Marko Petrović, Enes Terzić, Izudin Filipović, Stjepan Kljuić, Namik Terzimehić, Ismet Arslanagić, Muhamed Masleša and Manojlo Čalija.
The following were elected to the first Executive Committee of the NOC of BiH: Mirza Delibašić, Mirsad Fazlagić, Čedo Gojković, Ahmed Karabegović, Dragan Nožica, Ante Raos, Mehmed Sokolović, Miroslav Šipek and Katica Šporer. Members of the first Supervisory Board elected were: Muhamed Mujić (president), Vlatko Hrgic and Dako Radošević (members).
The Olympic Committee of BiH continues to devote itself to developing sport, promoting fair play and protecting Olympic values.
