Europe is adopting an action plan to help sports
Europe is adopting an action plan to help sports, and the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina is looking for its chance.
At the first regular session of the EU Commission of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), held via video link, the current sports situation and the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe was discussed. On behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a member of the EU Commission of the European Olympic Committees, prof.dr. Izet Radjo, the President of the BiH Olympic Committee, presented the difficult state of the sport system in BiH. Like most EU countries, the BiH Olympic Committee helps its athletes by organizing online education, seminars and forums. It also actively negotiates with the state administration on the status of sport during and after the pandemic and the inclusion of sports in measures to overcome the COVID-19 crisis in BiH.
"As in Bosnia and Herzegovina, sport has stopped in the whole of Europe. Sport competitions have been postponed, athletes train from home, and sport organizations struggle to survive. But what sets sports apart from other segments of society and the economy is solidarity.
Most EU member states have already adopted certain measures to help sport and the sport system, in order to keep sport afloat in this difficult period and to continue its mission after the COVID-19 crisis, "said Prof. Dr. Rađo after the online session. The President of OC BiH added that the establishment of strategic policies at the level of European Olympic Committees and National Olympic Committees is underway, with the aim to support the athletes, in order to prepare and achieve the best results in the upcoming Olympic year.
"The good news from the BiH Olympic Committee is that the Olympic candidates and athletes who have already qualified for Tokyo 2020 will continue to receive scholarships until the Olympic Games. Considering that BiH is not a member of the European Union, through the EOC, the BiH Olympic Committee has a chance to be part of strategies and policies that will help BiH sport from the EU level ", said in the end prof.dr Rađo.
