The president of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Davor Komšić, took part in the conference "Sports Diplomacy: Policies, Practices and Future Opportunities," where a historic step for the region was achieved with the founding of the Western Balkan Sport Diplomacy Hub. The event was organized by the Olympic Committee of North Macedonia in Skopje.

Alongside Komšić, delegates from the Olympic committees of North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Kosovo and Albania attended; more than 15 ambassadors and embassy representatives from the country and region; and representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, state institutions, the academic community and sports organizations.

The highlight of the program was the signing of a Declaration establishing the Regional Hub for Sport Diplomacy, a joint platform that will unite National Olympic Committees to strengthen cooperation and represent the region more effectively on the European and global stage.

Key objectives to be integrated into the platform’s work include strengthening regional cooperation through sports diplomacy initiatives; capacity building for NOCs, sports federations and young professionals; ensuring a unified Western Balkan voice in European and international sports forums; promoting gender-sensitive diplomacy and female leadership in sport; leveraging sporting events to develop tourism and the local economy; and supporting research, data collection and policy development in sports diplomacy.

Organizers stated that this was not just a conference, but the start of a new chapter in which sport becomes a driver of diplomacy, partnerships, institutional strengthening and regional development.
