Important day for the NOC BIH
Today marks 32 years since the founding of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina!
On 4, 1992, the founding assembly was led by the working Presidency composed of Ahmed Karabegović, Čedo Gojković, and Miroslav Šipek. Stjepan Kljuić was elected as the first President of the Committee.
After its founding and the first appearance of the athletes of our country at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 1992, which was also the first significant victory of people devoted to sports who preserved the Olympic heritage from total destruction in our country during difficult wartime, on September 24, 1993, in Monaco, the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OK BiH) was officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
OK BiH was then registered on December 8, 2002, by the Ministry of Justice as the first sports organization uniting national sports federations. With this registration, as well as the previous signing of the Lausanne Declaration on July 28, 1999, the umbrella sports body of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina was established.
From 1992 to the present, the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina has participated in numerous competitions with more than 1,500 top athletes. The first medals for Bosnia and Herzegovina were brought by karateka Eldin Pekmez - bronze, at the Mediterranean Games in Montpellier in 1993, while the first gold medals were won by boxer Almedin Fetahović and the basketball players led by Razija Mujanović.
In addition to participating in international multi-sport competitions, OK BiH has continuously worked on numerous projects for the education of athletes and sports workers, scholarships for top athletes, promotion and preservation of Olympic heritage and values, European Union projects, and organizing many activities as well as major projects, among which we highlight hosting the EYOF in 2019 and the restoration of the original building of the Olympic Museum. The Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue its dedicated work and efforts to improve and strengthen the Olympic movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire sports system of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The first Executive Committee was made up of prominent Olympians, athletes, and sports workers: Mirza Delibašić, Mirsad Fazlagić, Čedo Gojković, Ahmed Karabegović, Dragan Nožica, Ante Raos, Mehmed Sokolović, Miroslav Šipek, and Katica Šporer.
