In memoriam - Elvedin Begić

With sadness, we received the news of the premature death of the prominent sports worker, member of the Executive Committee of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and long-time president of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elvedin Begić.

Elvedin Begić made a significant contribution to the quality work of the bodies and agencies of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina through his engagement as a member of the Executive Committee, as well as to the advancement of sports and the sports system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Elvedin Begić was born on October 24, 1960, in Sarajevo. He graduated from the Faculty of Transportation in Sarajevo.

Since 1979, he has been actively involved in the operations of FK "Butmir," where he served as president from 1996 to 2004, and later was a member of the club's management.

As an exceptional and respected sports worker, he made immeasurable contributions to the development of sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in football, where he was most actively engaged. During his sports career, Begić was also a delegate in the Assembly of FSKS, a member of the Presidency of FSKS, a member of the Normalization Committee of NS/FS BiH, and served as the first vice president of the UEFA committee for stadiums and safety.

During his first term in the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the national football team succeeded in qualifying and participating in its first major tournament, the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

The commemoration will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Sarajevo International Airport, and the funeral will take place the same day at 5:00 PM after the Ikindija prayer at the local cemetery in Butmir.

The Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends, the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the sports public in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the loss of this prominent individual and sports worker.
