International Day of Sport for Development and Peace
The Peace and Sport Organization has called on the international community to get involved and raise the #WhiteCard for 460 million children whose lives are affected by conflicts. This symbolic gesture highlights the need for sport for peace to become a priority.
This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013 to recognize the power of sport in promoting positive social change, community development, and fostering peace and understanding worldwide.
These very values—peace, development, solidarity, inclusion, and equality—are deeply embedded in the vision and mission of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Olympic Committee of BiH continuously works on developing our country's sports system, believing that sport is a universal language that unites people, erases differences, and opens the door to a better society.
Through numerous initiatives, the Bosnia and Herzegovina Olympic Committee consistently promotes:
- Education of youth and athletes about the values of Olympism, fair play, and unity
- Climate actions through tree planting, reducing plastic use, and promoting sustainable mobility
- Campaigns and workshops on a healthy lifestyle and the role of sport in mental health
- Empowering children and youth through sport as a tool for developing self-confidence, discipline, and mutual respect
The mission of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Olympic Committee is to contribute to building a healthier, fairer, and more peaceful society through the power of sport, not only in BiH but beyond. Today, more than ever, we recognize sport as a bridge between differences, as a platform for dialogue, and as a tool for creating a shared future.
Happy April 6th, the day when sport speaks the language of peace.
