Legendary Bosnian basketball player Dževad Alihodžić has been appointed the new Secretary General of the Basketball Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This was confirmed at an official press conference of the umbrella body of Bosnian basketball, and the news was announced by the president of the Association, Dalibor Miloš.

"We have made the decision that Dževad Alihodžić is the new Secretary General and this is the best possible news," said Miloš.

Alihodžić, who wore the national team jersey from 1995 to 2001, says he is eager to contribute to the development of basketball in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"We found common ground and I decided to try to contribute as the general secretary, to try to make a breakthrough, to make basketball in BiH move forward. I decided this with the people from the Board of Directors and I thank the people for their trust. We all have to contribute, basketball in BiH is a sport with tradition. We need to have everything in order, to solve the problems we have. I will work dedicatedly, do my best, and try to create a positive atmosphere above all," said Alihodžić, who achieved his greatest success with the Yugoslav national team in 1988, when it became the world junior champion and the European cadet champion in 1985.

Alihodžić grew up in Čelik, and later moved to Sarajevo's Bosna, where he played until 1990, and after he wore the jerseys of Cibona, Ulkerspor, Sankt Petersburg Lions, Strasbourg, and Scafati Basket.
