Patras - the capital of the region of Western Greece

Patras is the capital of western Greece and the third largest city in Greece. The city with its port represents the entrance to the rest of Europe from Greece and the center of Europe’s transport network, as it connects European transport networks with Greece’s main road network.

Patras is the administrative center of the region of western Greece and the economic, cultural, educational, commercial and population center of this region.

Patras in one of the historically most important places of Greece is located in the center of a virtual triangle that forms the 3 most important archaeological sites in the country: ancient Olympia, Delphi and Epidaurus.

The multitude of archeological sites and historical monuments, most of which date from the Mycenaean period, are evidence of the extraordinary role of Patras in the development of ancient Greek civilization.

The city is located 218 km west of Athens and has 213,984 inhabitants according to the 2011 census.

Mascot

Patras is the mascot of the II Mediterranean Beach Games Patras 2019. Its creator is Canella Stasinopoulou, a graduate of the School of Fine Arts and an art teacher at the Arasakeia School of Patras.

The mascot of the II Mediterranean Beach Games Patras 2019 is a seagull ("Patreas"), and was chosen due to the fact that it is the largest coastal bird that a visitor will encounter when visiting the coastal belt of Patras where the Games will be held.
