Today marks 32 years since the historic moment when the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina became a full member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This event signified a significant step in the international recognition of Bosnia and Herzegovina's sports identity and autonomy, enriching the sports community of this country with new opportunities and responsibilities.

The Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina was founded on June 4, 1992, in Sarajevo, and its establishment marked the desire to preserve the sports identity, promote Olympic values, and foster international cooperation.

First Composition and Key Figures

The first Executive Board consisted of prominent athletes, Olympians, and sports officials, among whom were:

  • Mirza Delibašić
  • Mirsad Fazlagić
  • Čedo Gojković
  • Ahmed Karabegović
  • Dragan Nožica
  • Ante Raos

Stjepan Kljuić was elected as the president, while Izudin Filipović served as the general secretary, and they worked cohesively at the beginning to strengthen the position of sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As a reflection of international recognition, the Olympic Committee of BiH became an associate member of the IOC on July 23, 1992, and was granted full membership on September 24, 1993, which is undoubtedly one of the most important dates in the history of sports in BiH. This step expressed the country's desire for active participation in the global sports community.

Bosnia and Herzegovina made its debut at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992, shocking yet proud.

This historic event was more than just a sports appearance – it represented a symbol of inner strength, unity, and commitment to sports ideals.

Support Without Which We Could Not Have Succeeded

We would like to thank all our long-standing partners and sponsors who have supported the Olympic spirit and the development of sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly BH Telecom, the Lottery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Coca-Cola, the number one sports brand, for their ongoing support and trust.

We also thank our new partners, ASA Hospital and Dental Center Marković, whose associate sponsorship and partnership engagement represent an additional affirmation of our joint investment in health, development, and the Olympic spirit.

We express our gratitude for this year's support from the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which recognizes the importance of sports as a fundamental segment of social development. We hope that all levels of government will position themselves and finance sports through systematic and adequate solutions in the future.

Together with our partners, we will continue to promote Olympic values, sporting excellence, and the development of sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
