The President of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Davor Komšić, participated in the 55th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) held in Budapest, which brought together representatives of National Olympic Committees from across Europe, international sports organizations and key partners of the Olympic movement.

During the two-day session, the most important topics concerning the future of European sport, the development of the Olympic movement and strengthening cooperation among National Olympic Committees were discussed.

In addition to taking part in the General Assembly, President Komšić used the opportunity to establish and further enhance cooperation with colleagues from other National Olympic Committees, as well as with secretaries general from Europe and the region. Exchange of experience, strengthening partnerships and discussions on joint projects represent an important aspect of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s international activities.

On the second day of the General Assembly, special emphasis was placed on cooperation between the European Olympic Committees and the European Union, with a reaffirmed shared commitment to preserving the European sporting model and further developing sport at all levels.

Preparations for the European Youth Olympic Festivals (EYOF) 2027 were also presented. The organizing committees for the 18th Winter EYOF in Brașov, Romania, and the 19th Summer EYOF in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy, reported on progress to date and their readiness to host competitions featuring Europe’s best young athletes.

EOC President Spyros Capralos again stressed the importance of equal access to sport for all athletes, emphasizing that practicing sport is a right, not a privilege, and that every young athlete should have the opportunity to compete regardless of political circumstances.

“Practicing sport is a right, not a privilege. Every young athlete deserves the chance to compete, regardless of the passport they hold or the actions of their government. In this, the European Olympic Committees are fully aligned with the Olympic Charter,” Capralos said.

Assembly participants also reviewed reports from 11 EOC commissions, activities related to implementation of the Strategic Agenda 2030, and topics in the areas of anti-doping, cooperation with the European Union and the organization of future major sporting events.

President Capralos noted significant progress during the two-day session and expressed confidence that the European Olympic movement faces a period filled with new challenges and important projects, including the organization of the European Games Istanbul 2027.

The Assembly concluded by confirming that the 56th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees will be held on June 15, 2027, in Istanbul.

The participation of the President of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina in this significant gathering once again confirms the active involvement of the Olympic Committee of BiH in the work of the European Olympic family and its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and creating new opportunities for sports development in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
