Sarajevo marked the International Day of Older Persons
A symposium titled “Age and Health” was held at the Olympic Committee of BiH, joining Sarajevo with global cities in celebrating the International Day of Older Persons. The organizers were the International Academy of Sciences and Arts of BiH and the Olympic Committee of BiH, with support from the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Health of KS, and the European Association of Emeritus Professors (E.A.P.E.).
Gathered academics, doctors, and professors discussed the challenges and opportunities brought by increased life expectancy, emphasizing the need for a multidisciplinary approach and the role of new technologies in preserving the health of older individuals.
Dr. Enis Hasanović, the Minister of Health of KS, Academician Halima Resić, Chair of the Organizing Committee, and Mr. Rodoljub Petković, Chair of the Education Commission of the Olympic Committee of BiH, addressed the attendees, stating that “aging is a global challenge, but also an opportunity to build a society that values the experience and knowledge of older generations.”
With this gathering, Sarajevo aligns itself with cities such as Catania, Košice, Naples, Salerno, Caserta, and Padua, sending a strong message that dignified and healthy aging belongs to everyone.
